TonidoPlug2 a Cloud-In-A-Plug device going to be released in the series of Tonidoplug by CodeLathe, a private software startup based in Dallas, TX. With a TonidoPlug connected to your hard drive and internet, you can access your files, photos, music and media like you do with other cloud gadgets like ‘Pogoplug’ but in addition you can access your applications too. SkyDrive or Dropbox may give you storage but only up to a limit for free. TonidoPlug could be a good option to run your home-based server with an investment of just $99. The applications pre-installed with TonidoPlug2 are Torrent, Jukebox, WebsharePro, Search, Backup and Explorer running on Linux OS. Tonido App store offers your favorite applications which can be installed and run from anywhere with an internet connection. The best part is you can access your files and use your favorite apps on this device without an internet connection. Also, it acts as a Network Attached Storage(NAS) device for your computers in local network and when you stay outside the local network it can be set as a local storage with drag and drop and upload features. Tonido is just bigger than a smartphone which is powered by a 1.2 GHz ARM processor, 512 MB RAM and 512 MB Flash memory consumes less power and proves to be a green device. The installation seems to be so easy. You need to connect the Tonidoplug to home internet and USB hard drive and then to the power outlet, go to the link and connect to your Tonido shown in the web page, create your profile, then you are ready to use your apps and access your data from anywhere by using an unique URL via a web browser or supported mobile devices. You can install Tonido on the machines in intranet or on your friends’ systems to create a private network to synchronise. Both TonidoPlug2 and PogoPlug turn your local storage to Personal cloud but Tonido offers users to run apps from the device and even without an internet connection it serves to the local network with the installed apps and access to data stored. Both support iPhone, Android, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 for access and sharing, Tonido, in addition supports Blackberry and Windows 7 mobile. The feature that outweighs Pogo is running the apps from the Tonido device that goes more deep into the cloud with virtual apps concept. For some, instead of searching for cloud storage services and their free storage limits, and similar personal cloud devices, TonidoPlug2 would be a better option to expand their local storage with no additional charge but to make it work you connect the Tonido device to the internet to make the files travel online as well as you connect your mobile device to another internet connection so you pay for the internet twice and also, the device needs to be plugged in whenever your want to access your files away from home.
