Damian Schmidt, CEO of Strato commented, “Users of cloud storage want to open and manipulate their files from anywhere, like they do with their PC at home. The new File Manager in HiDrive makes it possible to access data conveniently no matter what device is used and from any location. The design and functionality is adapted to other standard file managers, so it is highly intuitive and easy to use".

Every company right from Google, yahoo Inc and hotmail use cloud services for sending mails, youtube for uploading cloud videos, drop box for cloud storage. Though people are not much aware of Strato, a company that provides hosting plans, a typical webhosting company similar to go daddy they are now entering the market for consumer based products.

This could be the selling point of Strato’s Hidrive, which for promotional purposes and to get a feel of their solution, they are offering a 5 GB free space for cloud storage. If users are unhappy, they can opt out of it and discontinue using their services. The primary focus on HiDrive is the security level it offers for the files you store on cloud. The encrypted data is safely placed between two data centers whose servers are present in Germany. Laws are stringent in Germany for data privacy than USA. The data is safely vaulted in the data centers which are certified ISO27001, a norm that is followed in banks. So security level is greatly enhanced in HiDrive.

You can have access to your files through Strato’s file manager through standard internet based protocol like FTP and WebDav. Recently the file manager has been upgraded with features that allow display of relevant information as to how much storage space is available, mail upload, share links and backup versions. For usability purpose, the file manager can be managed in these ways Manage’ - generate folders, upload their data, rename folders and delete folders, ‘Add’ - upload data from their hard disc or other storage mediums, as well as store data from URL directly ‘Share’ - set up sharing features, generate password-protected third party upload and download of selected files and define number of downloads and time limits.

You can quickly access your files and share them with your clients if you are having an enterprise and create a public folder that users can download if you give them the access to that folder. If you have larger files to upload and you find it difficult, in case your internet is slow, all you have to do is copy the contents and burn them on a DVD, send it to Strato office. They will upload the files on your behalf in your specified cloud storage place.

A backup control service is provided which enables you to access your files, in case you deleted them accidentally. It provides backup for certain period of time. If you wish to take up this service, you need to pay extra.

Finally an icing on the cake about this product, is it is climate friendly and energy efficient with no compromise on its ability to perform when web traffic is unusually high.
