Types of Cloud computingTweet![]() By Ragu. Posted on 20 May 2011. As the organizations are moving towards cloud, they want to understand the types of cloud computing and analyze the best suitable one for them. Public cloudPublic cloud or external cloud is a metered service similar to public utility provided by the vendors via web applications or web services where the location of the infrastructure is invisible to the customers and it is shared between the organizations. The numbers of small and medium sized companies acquiring external cloud are rising for its tariff lower than the private cloud. Private cloudPrivate cloud or internal cloud is a private network in the cloud externally or within the premises where the customers do not share their network with other organizations. It is claimed that they are expensive and more secure than pubic cloud. Hybrid cloudHybrid cloud is the combination of both public and private cloud based upon the criticality of applications used where the organizations may have multiple public and private providers. Community cloudCommunity cloud is a network shared by the same type of organizations. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) say Community cloud is a cloud infrastructure which is shared by several organizations and supports a specific community that has shared concerns (e.g., mission, security requirements, and policy and compliance considerations). It may be managed by the organizations or a third party and may exist on premise or off premise. Infrastructure As A Service (IAAS), Platform As A Service (PAAS) and Software AS A Service (SAAS)IAAS refers to the hardware related services such as disk storage and virtual servers. PAAS refers to the development platforms provided on the cloud. SAAS is the most common one which refers to the software services offered on the cloud. The cloud service providers are listed on www.techno-pulse.com.
